An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a computer and serves as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, which includes peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it transmits requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, web servers also feature an Operating System which acts as a host for all of the software installed on them, which includes script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so it is possible to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server packages include three Linux releases which you could select from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being totally free, the OSs are really stable and risk-free and the key reason to offer all 3 of them is to ensure that you can run each app that you'd like, as different pieces of software could have different requirements about the environment they can be used on. Each of the three OSs is backed by a vast community of developers who have created many hundreds of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. In accordance with the Operating System that you select, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to take care of your hosting content. Of course, in case you decide that you need some other OS, we can always reinstall the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the OS for optimum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you will find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a broader choice regarding the system environment on your machine as different applications may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and safe Internet hosting service. Depending on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you've selected initially doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you want to run. We can also upgrade the OS routinely in order to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
